The goal of the sport and performance consultant is to increase the quality of life of their client by helping them reach their performance and health goals. The M.S. in Sport and Performance Psychology program trains students to apply psychological strategies to help clients improve physical performance and control. Students become academically prepared through a variety of biblically rooted courses in psychology and kinesiology, while also gaining hands-on experience through practicum placement and mentorship.

1. Core Concepts
1.1 Students will understand the basic array of cognitive and affective topics in psychology and understand how these processes can affect performance and perception.
1.2 Students will understand how biological processes outside of the central nervous system work together to support performance.
1.3 Students will understand how the central nervous system influences performance.
1.4 Students will understand how both social dynamics and individual differences influence performance on an individual and team level.

  1. Application for admission with a $45 non-refundable application fee
  2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or the evaluated equivalency.
  3. Official transcripts showing completion of a baccalaureate degree. Additional transcripts may be required to verify prerequisites or GPA
  4. Grade point average
      • 3.0 GPA for unconditional admission.
      • Applicants with a GPA below 2.75 may be considered for admission based on a combination of GPA, work experience, and personal interview
  5. Prerequisites (completed with a “C” or better)
      • General Psychology
      • Introduction to Anatomy or Physiology
      • Statistics
      • Outstanding prerequisite work must be completed within the first semester of graduate enrollment
  6. Three recommendations from sources who can address your potential for scholarly and professional success. At least one recommendation should be from a professor or instructor. Family members and friends may not complete recommendations.
  7. Comprehensive essay of at least 500 words that includes the following:
      • Purpose for entering the program
      • Experiences that have directed your interest toward Sport and Performance Psychology
      • Long-term professional goals
      • Reasons for choosing to study at CBU
  8. Current résumé documenting all related professional and extracurricular experiences
  9. Successful interview with the director of the graduate program in Sport and Performance Psychology
  10. An applicant whose first language is not English and/or does not have a degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction is required to demonstrate English proficiency.
