Information Technology (IT) is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in higher education. IT professionals are needed in every industry. We live in a networked, electronic world, and rely on always available, secure systems to live, work, and play. The field of IT is responsible for building, managing, and securing these global systems. UC's Master of Science in Information Technology graduate program provides the hands-on skills needed to quickly solve real-world problems. With our world increasingly becoming electronic, we must work within mobile and social networks and secure all of the information transferred and stored every day. The Master’s in Information Technology (MSIT) program offers the coursework in Cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, mobile development, and human-computer interaction necessary for students to secure software applications, networks, and systems.

The MS Information Technology program values work experience, hands-on learning, and scholarly research work. Students choose to complete a capstone or a thesis as part of their MSIT program requirements. With the capstone-based program, students have the opportunity to work with award-winning faculty to build an IT solution. With the thesis-based program, students can work with award-winning and attentive faculty to research and develop new ideas for the IT field.

Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA average in undergraduate coursework on a 4.0 scale, (or a B average.) If the applicant has lower than a 3.0 GPA, students must provide evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program. Applicants with an undergraduate GPA below a 3.0 may choose to improve their application by completing 12 credit hours of specified IT bridge coursework and receive at least a 3.0 GPA in these courses.

Note: If you are an international student, please include your converted GPA using the WES iGPA Calculator (WES.org) in addition to your non-converted GPA and class (if applicable) as well as the country where you received your degree.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements are:

• A baccalaureate degree from a college or university regarded as standard by a regional or general accrediting agency
• At least a B average (3.0/4.0 system) in undergraduate course work. If the applicant has a lower GPA they must either give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program and the Graduate School or complete 12 credit hours of specified IT bridge courses with a 3.0 GPA prior to admission into the program.
• Transcripts of all college or university grades. Note: for the application, you may upload unofficial transcripts; however, if admitted you will need to submit your official transcripts.
• Current resume or curriculum vitae
• Three letters of reference from individuals who know you professionally or academically
• A personal statement- If your background is not from IT or if your GPA is below a 3.0, please be sure to address the following questions in your personal statement:
  • How has your past experience prepared you be successful in an MSIT? For example, what types of courses (university or online), industry experience, or certificates have you completed to build skills in this area? Or, what is it about your personal disposition or work ethic that would help you be successful in this program?
• GRE is waived for qualified applicants
